Teacher Training
Courses for teachers are available through Senders Educational Consulting and can be scheduled for on-site trainings with specific schools or an entire district. Classes are also held at the Senders Educational Consulting facility for groups or individual teachers. See below for a description of some of the offered courses. Teachers Preschool-Third Grade
Teachers will be given a structure to increase class effectiveness and reduce the number of meltdowns. Children will see themselves as productive people in the classroom as well as able to handle the frustrating situations that come their way.
- ELIMINATING BULLY/VICTIM ROLES IN A CLASSROOM
Shubert Book Series Teaches Composure and Assertiveness
Teachers of Kindergarten-Third Grade
By using the Shubert Book Series by Dr. Bailey, teachers are able to provide children with a doable framework for handling behaviors that otherwise can escalate to bullying. Teachers will learn strategies to model and coach an assertive voice for children who become victimized.

Teachers of Preschool-Fifth Grade (program adapted for each grade level).
Enrich your teaching skills by exploring ways to encourage motivation, set helpful classroom guidelines and use consequences to guide student behavior.
CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE® COURSE FOR TEACHERS
Teachers of Preschool - Middle School (program adapted for each grade level)
This course is offered in three progressing levels: Information, Application, and Integration.
LEVEL I - INFORMATION
Teachers receive a thorough understanding of the seven principles of Conscious Discipline®.
Introduction:

Brief look at where we derive our views for disciplining and motivating children.
|
Composure:
|
Being the person you desire others to become. Receive concrete ways to maintain self-control in conflict situations.
|
Positive Intent:
|
Learning to see past the behavior in order to support positive growth. Suspend judgment in order to teach a new skill set rather than blame children for using inappropriate means when faced with conflict.
|
Assertiveness:
|
Setting limits respectfully. Focus attention on what IS expected in an assertive manner. Also addresses teaching children to have an assertive voice.
|
Encouragement:
|
Strengthening the spirit of the child. Build the School Family™ and create an emotionally supportive classroom environment.
|
Empathy:
|
Constructively walking alongside children during angry or frustrating situations. Teachers learn how to coach a child's feelings from a 'meltdown' to acceptance.
|
Choices:
|
Building self-esteem and willpower. Highlights the most effective ways to use choices, especially for children who 'get stuck' in certain situations.
|
Consequences:
|
Helping children learn from their mistakes. Consequences become the way to turn mistakes into teaching opportunities.

Length of training:
|
10 to 12 hours over a one to three month period.

LEVEL II - APPLICATION
This is the workshop phase of Conscious Discipline®. Teachers receive a short review and additional information with hands-on practices and activities that deepen the understanding and increase the usefulness of each Conscious Discipline® tool.
Introduction:

Team-building activity to create a School Family™ among the staff.
|
Composure:
|
Work with scenarios that are likely to be triggers. May include Make-It, Take-It materials.
|
Positive Intent:
|
Practice in shifting from limiting perspectives to perspectives that help us stay in a teaching mindset.
|
Assertiveness:
|
Work with the "voice of knowing" and additional supports in helping children in growing assertive voices. May include Make-It, Take-It materials.
|
Encouragement:
|
Practice in shifting from judgment statements to encouragement statement. Additional ways to set up a School Family™ will be explored. May include Make-It, Take-It materials.

| Empathy |
Practice coaching techniques of empathy. |
Choices:
|
Learn to "hear" the difference between choices and manipulation.
|
Consequences:
|
Practice applying the three levels of consequences with additional focus on problem solving as a School Family™.

Length of training:
|
10 to 12 hours over a 2 to 7 month period. May include class observation.

LEVEL III - INTEGRATION
Teachers will be using classroom situations to establish a stronger sense of how the Conscious Discipline® tools work in conjunction with each other. Activities will allow teachers to see the flow from one principle to another.
Teachers will practice the language of Conscious Discipline® and discuss ways to continue the shift from "common" to "conscious" choices.
Teachers will have the opportunity to receive hands-on classroom support and coaching from a Certified Conscious Discipline Instructor.
Length of Training: 10 to 16 hours over a 4 to 7 month period. Hours include classroom observation and teacher coaching.
